Is it Time to Feed You Again?

Is it Time to Feed You Again?

Friday seems to come faster and faster these days. = ) Is it time to feed you again?

Today I have a Gunz creation that has morphed into a fun, easy tradition.

It’s Friday, it must be time to feed you again!

Tuesdays are omelet day at the Gunz’. Each person fills out their “order” sheet that includes all of the ingredients on hand for fillers and each person gets a personalized omelet. There is even a fill in section for “extras” I may have forgotten to list. I draw the line at peanut butter, you’ll have to spread that on yourself. Some winner combinations included Durkee onion rings (you know, the kind you put on green bean casserole?) and cheddar cheese. Some incredible fail combos included Spagettio’s, let’s just say, it wasn’t pretty, and the recipient ended up with a mushroom and Swiss in the end.

This time honored tradition has been followed with other “You Build It” variations. Friday is usually homemade pizza day. You pick your topping, I make pan size crusts, you build your pizza, the Parsnip cooks them (because he doesn’t scoff at lifting out the pizza stone a dozen times, especially when homemade pizza is involved).

Our most recent build it yourself involves sliders made to order. We use King rolls for buns or sometimes I make them. In a pinch we have used English Muffins with good results.

It’s time to feed you again, so, this is what I’m feeding you this week.

Sliders, Time to feed you again

Time to feed you again? How about sliders?

MenuĀ

Build it yourself sliders

Carrot and Celery Sticks w/Ranch or Bleu Cheese

Potato Salad

Iced Green Tea with Mint

Apple Crumble with Vanilla Ice Cream

I make the sliders on my grill pan inside, or if I’m feeling it, I’ll throw them on the grill. Here is a great list of toppings to choose from, including my favorite “paisley” guacamole that I’ll give you the recipe for following the list.

  • Bacon
  • Sour Cream
  • Grilled (or fresh) jalapeno
  • Sauteed onion
  • Sauteed mushroom
  • Guacamole
  • Paisley Guacamole*
  • Lettuce
  • Baby Spinach (Patrick’s favorite, he calls it Healthy Leaves)
  • Bleu Cheese (For the daughter and the hubby)
I like a little sweet with my spicy. My older kids think this is crazy but my little guys are with me on this, so this has been a hit for the cool kids in our house.
Sliders, build it yourself

Build it yourself sliders….yum!

Paisley Guacamole (Formerly known as Mom’s Crazy Guacamole)

  • 6 large soft avocados
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayo
  • 2 cloves garlic (pressed or finely minced)
  • small can crushed pineapple drained well
  • 2 jalapenos seeded chopped finely
  • healthy bunch cilantro chopped finely, few stems
  • Juice from two limes
  • Sea salt and pepper to taste

In large non reactive mixing bowl mash 5 of the avocados, mix in the sour cream and mayo, add garlic and jalapeno, stir in cilantro

I then split this recipe in half, half for those that want the pineapple and the other half for the cool kids. Add the pineapple to one batch, mix in the juice of a lime to each batch. The pineapple gives a sweet zing to the heat of the jalapeno and makes it delish! Oh, I almost forgot…that one extra avocado? I cut it in to 1/2 inch cubes and use it as a garnish on top of each batch. Yum!

Now you can start your own “Build It Yourself” Slider tradition. Have a paisley weekend!~KeriAnne
